Normally you see that in a business, but that's because their server is making MONEY. Raid is for RAPIDLY replacing data when you need that data back up NOW. In any case RAID is not what you want in a media center of almost any kind. The need to hoard for that matter may be quite questionable. It's always there waiting for you to need something. Just think of all the usenet and torrent clients as your own personal cloud. With stuff like CP and Sonarr RAID is silly and backups of 99% of your media is not necessary.
PLEX MEDIA CENTER OS DOWNLOAD
Backup Couchpotato and Sonarr and even if you had a total loss of all the media, you could just freaking download it again in X amount of days. A media server does not need redundancy, especially if you uh. I'm not sure why this silly addiction to raid continues. Raid is 100% a waste of time in a media server. Your PI is doing all the work.įor that matter you could probably run a PI as your server and a PI as your client if you really wanted. If you don't know, media servers like this, don't require much power at all. Not slow enough to impact a media server though.
PLEX MEDIA CENTER OS FREE
I did like the free drive pooling Linux has though, but it's slow of course. If your cheap and like doing extra work, go with Linux! I did no get better performance out of my Linux server after many installs.
PLEX MEDIA CENTER OS WINDOWS 7
It however did not work any better than the Windows server does, so my hour of time and increased admin load really had no payoff other than me giving MS the finger, which I kind of already did when I started collecting Windows 7 keys, which I can now convert to Windows 10. I built a Linux Plex server and it was no better than the Windows, it just took 100 times longer to setup and was harder to admin, but it worked just fine once it was up. If you want to use Sonarr and know windows, PLEASE do yourself a favor and use Windows. There may be an occasional RDP bug, but that's not entirely new for MS. I use Win 10 on my Xeon Plex server and it works fine. and anyone who cares to horde the limitless piles of Win7 keys out there. Windows is easier to use for most people and more widely supported and will do 99% of the job of the Linux server, so I personally would go with that since I have lots of Windows keys effectively making windows free for me. Unless you need ultra performance and scalability there will be no realistic benefit from using Linux other than it's free. All disk formats and network transfer speeds are going to max out at your hard drive and mobos bandwidth rates. There is no significant performance difference for small to medium sized file sharing between any modern OS. What ever OS you already know the best will certainly be the best choice.
